Apex Legends shows a different name depending on where you play. On PC through Steam it shows your Steam persona, which accepts Unicode freely; on PlayStation and Xbox it shows the console online ID, which allows letters, numbers and a few symbols only; on the EA app it shows your EA ID, which is restricted to letters, numbers, underscores, hyphens and periods and is checked against a name filter. That means styled names are possible on Steam and in club names, but not in an EA ID.
Club names and club tags are the most reliable place for styling. Tags are short โ four characters โ so bracketed or symbol-framed tags are the convention, and club names accept a wider range of characters than IDs do.

Club Names and Tags
An Apex club tag shows beside every memberโs name in the lobby, so it has to be legible at small size and within four characters. Bracketed plain letters ([APX]) read best; the Star frame and Predator rows suit the club name itself rather than the tag. Club names are visible in the club browser, so a plain searchable word inside a styled frame is better than a fully styled name if you are recruiting.
Name Changes and Filters
EA allows an EA ID change roughly every 30 days, and rejected names are usually the filter, not the characters โ it blocks impersonation of EA staff and offensive terms. Steam persona changes are free and immediate. Console ID changes follow Sony and Microsoft rules and may be paid. Because Apex reads the platform name at login, changing it takes effect the next time you launch the game.
