Punctuation gets in the way when text is going to be counted, searched or processed: commas and quotes attach themselves to words in word clouds, hashtags and symbols pollute keyword lists, and numbers or emoji break spelling and vocabulary exercises. This tool removes each category separately so you can strip exactly what you do not need.
The default row removes all punctuation and symbols (including hashes, dashes and curly quotes) and tidies the double spaces left behind. Keep apostrophes when contractions matter (isn’t, it’s), remove numbers for text-only analysis, remove emoji for platforms that reject them, or reduce the text to letters and spaces for the cleanest possible word list.

What Each Row Removes
The rows are cumulative in strength: pick the mildest that does the job so you do not lose meaning.

Preparing Text for Word Clouds and Analysis
Word-cloud and frequency tools count “world” and “world,” as different words. Run the text through “Remove punctuation, keep apostrophes”, then lowercase it with the last row or the case converter, and the counts become accurate. For stop-word removal and de-duplication of the resulting word list use the duplicate-line remover.
Emoji and Symbols in Usernames and Forms
Many sign-up forms, game name fields and government portals reject emoji and symbols.
