A PlayStation account has two names. The online ID โ the unique handle other players see โ must be 3โ16 characters of letters, numbers, hyphens and underscores only, so it cannot contain fancy fonts. The profile name (your real or display name, shown to friends) and the About Me text accept Unicode, so bold, gothic, double-struck and script text display there on PS5, PS4 and in the PlayStation app.
This page separates the two: the Online ID rows strip everything Sony will reject so you can see a valid handle, and the Profile name and About Me rows generate styled text for the parts of the profile that allow it.

About Me holds a short styled tagline โ a framed motto, a star line, clan brackets โ plus plain text for platforms and a Discord handle. Emoji like ๐ display on PS5 and in the app.
Making a Plain ID Stand Out
With symbols excluded, distinctive online IDs use underscores between words (Shadow_Strike), mixed case (ShadowStrike), a meaningful number, or a hyphen. The ID-safe rows show exactly what survives Sonyโs filter, including the 16-character cut-off.
