Threads Fonts Generator – Bold, Italic & Fancy Text for Threads

Threads inherits Instagram's text handling: no bold, no italic, no formatting of any kind in posts, replies or bios. Unicode fonts are the standard workaround, and because Threads and Instagram share the same profile, a styled Threads bio also appears on Instagram.

Posts on Threads are short (500 characters) and text-first, so a bold opening line or an italic aside is more visible here than on almost any other platform.

Threads renders Unicode Mathematical Alphanumeric characters exactly like Instagram does, so 𝗕𝗼𝗹𝗱 and 𝘐𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘤 show correctly in the feed, in replies and in the "For you" and "Following" tabs. Text-only posts dominate Threads, which makes a single bold line an effective way to structure a longer post into a headline and body.

Everywhere free text is accepted: posts, replies, quotes, your bio and display name. The username is shared with Instagram and cannot contain fancy characters.

Threads feels conversational, so heavy decoration looks out of place. Bold for a headline, italic for a quote or sarcasm, small caps for a signature line – that is usually enough. Because Threads posts are frequently shared to Instagram Stories as images, styled text becomes part of the screenshot and stays readable there too.

Threads posts can federate to Mastodon and other fediverse apps. Unicode fonts are plain text, so they appear the same on those platforms – unlike any native formatting Threads might add later.

The three text-first networks handle formatting differently. X offers bold and italic only to Premium subscribers; Bluesky has no formatting at all; Threads has none either. Unicode fonts are the one approach that works identically on all three, which matters if you cross-post the same text. A bold Unicode hook line written once will look the same in the Threads feed, on X and in a Bluesky timeline, and it survives when a post is screenshotted or quoted.

Character limits differ – 500 on Threads, 280 on X, 300 on Bluesky – and letter-style fonts do not change the count, so a post styled for Threads can be reused without re-editing as long as it fits the shortest limit.
