A font changer replaces every letter with the same letter from a different Unicode alphabet, so the text appears to be in a different font while remaining plain text. That is the key difference from installing a font: nothing is installed, and the "font" travels with the text into apps that do not let you choose fonts – social media, chat, game names, form fields, comments.

Unicode defines several complete alphabets in addition to the standard Latin one: mathematical bold, italic, script, fraktur (gothic), double-struck, sans-serif and monospace; enclosed alphanumerics (circled, squared); full-width forms; and small capitals from phonetic blocks. A font changer maps a → 𝐚 / 𝒶 / 𝔞 / 𝕒 / 𝚊 and so on. The output is not a font file, just characters that every modern device already knows how to draw.

Installing a font changes how text looks on your device only; anyone reading it elsewhere sees their own default font. A Unicode font change is visible to everyone because the characters themselves are different. The trade-off: Unicode alphabets cover A–Z and digits but not accented letters or other scripts, and screen readers may read them letter by letter. For documents, install a real font; for social media, chat and names, use a font changer.

Bold and Sans Bold are the safest for readability. Script and Gothic are decorative and suit names. Monospace gives a technical look, Double Struck an outlined one. Small Caps is the minimal, aesthetic choice. Bubble, Square and Full Width are playful. The novelty alphabets (Japanese style, Russian style, Runes) swap letters for look-alikes from other scripts and are for visual effect only.

All styles render on current iOS, Android, Windows and macOS. A few of the plain Script letters (ℯ ℊ ℴ) come from a different Unicode block and can appear in a slightly different weight – Bold Script avoids this. Very old devices may show boxes for the mathematical alphabets; Small Caps and Full Width are the most universally supported.
