Unlike emoji they are not pictures, so they look the same on every device and can be pasted anywhere plain text is accepted – including places that strip emoji. The Lenny face ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°), the shrug ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and the table flip (╯°□°）╯︵ ┻━┻ are the most famous.

The Famous Ones
The Lenny face appeared on a Finnish image board in 2012 and became the universal "suggestive" or "smug" reaction. The shrug ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ uses the katakana character ツ (tsu) as a smiling face and has been an internet staple since the mid-2000s. The table flip and its reply "put the table back" ┬─┬ノ( º _ ºノ) express frustration and calm respectively. ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ is the bear, (◕‿◕) the happy face, (ಥ﹏ಥ) crying with Kannada letters as eyes.
Pasting Kaomoji Correctly
The shrug contains a backslash, which Markdown (Reddit, Discord, Slack) treats as an escape character – it disappears when posted. Type it as ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯ with two backslashes on those platforms, or use the version copied from here and add a second backslash if the arm vanishes. Faces with combining marks (the Lenny face's ͜ʖ) may render slightly differently across fonts but stay recognisable.
