Styled letters are Unicode characters, not fonts โ screen readers may read them letter by letter and search engines don't match them to plain words, so keep essential details in plain text. Unicode accessibility guide
A BattleTag is a name plus a number (Name#1234) and follows Blizzardโs rules: 3 to 12 characters, starting with a letter, no spaces, no symbols. It does accept accented Latin letters, which is why you see names like Trรขcรซr in Overwatch lobbies โ that is the only styling a BattleTag allows, and the Accented letters row here produces it. Full Unicode alphabets like bold or gothic are rejected.
On PlayStation and Xbox, Overwatch shows the console online ID instead, following those platformsโ rules. Styled text is genuinely useful outside the name field: team names for scrims and tournaments, LFG post titles, Discord roles and profile lines with role or rank tags.
Type your name (3โ12 characters) or a team name.
For a BattleTag use the Accented letters row; for teams and posts use any style.
Paste into Battle.net โ Account Settings โ BattleTag, or the team/LFG field.
Blizzard applies these to every BattleTag.
The Accented letters row replaces each letter with a dotted or accented version (รค แธ ฤ แธ รซ). These are single precomposed characters, not combining marks, so they survive Blizzardโs filter where combining diacritics would be stripped. The effect is subtle at lobby size but distinguishes a common name. Keep it readable: teammates need to type your BattleTag to add you, and accented letters make that harder โ a partly accented name is a good compromise.
Scrim and tournament team names on Battlefy, Toornament and FACEIT accept full Unicode, so the bold and gothic rows work there. LFG post titles in Discord servers take styled text and the role tags (ยท หขแตแต, ยท แตแตโฟแต, ยท แตแตหข) make a post scannable. On console, the PSN or Xbox name rules apply โ see those pages for the exact character sets.
No โ BattleTags allow letters and numbers only. Accented Latin letters are the exception.
