Unicode has far more bracket shapes than a keyboard: East Asian corner brackets 「 」 and 『 』 (used for quotations in Japanese), lenticular brackets 【 】 (used for titles and emphasis), double angle brackets 《 》 (book titles in Chinese), plus mathematical and ornamental sets. They are popular in gaming clan tags, anime-style usernames, YouTube titles and as neat frames around a name in a bio.

Every style here is a single opening and closing character, so a bracketed name costs only two extra characters of a name limit.

In Japanese, 「 」 are the standard quotation marks and 『 』 mark a quotation inside a quotation or a book title. 【 】 lenticular brackets highlight headings and are common in Chinese and Japanese video titles, which is why they feel "YouTube-ish". 《 》 enclose book, film and song titles in Chinese. 〔 〕 tortoise-shell brackets mark annotations. Outside East Asia these meanings are rarely known, and the brackets are used purely for their look.

Games that add a clan tag automatically use plain square brackets [TAG]; where you type the tag yourself, 【TAG】 or 「TAG」 stand out in a lobby list and are accepted in most Unicode-friendly name fields (Discord, Steam, Free Fire, PUBG Mobile, Roblox display names). Two brackets count as two characters, which matters for 12–14 character limits.

YouTube and TikTok creators put a keyword or series name in lenticular brackets at the start of a title – 【Tutorial】 – so it reads as a label. In bios, a bracketed role or location under the name gives structure without symbols that look like decoration. Combine with a Unicode font using the bold, small-caps and gothic variants.

East Asian brackets are full-width characters and take more horizontal space than ASCII brackets. All current systems render them; on some Western fonts they may sit slightly low or high relative to Latin letters. Mathematical brackets ⟦ ⟧ ⟨ ⟩ are in the Miscellaneous Mathematical Symbols block and are equally well supported.
