Pig Latin is a language game that rearranges English words by a fixed rule: move the initial consonant cluster to the end and add โayโ (string โ ingstray), or, when a word starts with a vowel, keep it whole and add โwayโ (apple โ appleway). It has been a playground code, a joke register and a way to hide a message in plain sight for well over a century.

The Rules of Pig Latin
There are only three rules, and the tool shows them in action on your own text.
- Starts with a consonant: move every consonant before the first vowel to the end, add โayโ โ banana โ ananabay, string โ ingstray.
- Starts with a vowel: keep the word and add โwayโ or โyayโ โ eat โ eatway / eatyay.
- โquโ travels together: question โ estionquay. โyโ counts as a consonant at the start of a word: yellow โ ellowyay.
Reading Pig Latin Back
To decode, remove the final โayโ, then move the trailing consonants back to the front. Words ending in โwayโ or โyayโ after a vowel are unchanged apart from the suffix. Ambiguity exists โ โaywayโ could come from โwayโ or โayโ โ which is part of the fun and why Pig Latin was never real cryptography. For a proper reversible cipher use the Caesar cipher tool.
